sign up for fall lacrosse - and future plans -
Aug 23, 2008It's time to sign up for Fall Lacrosse! Registration started August 1st.
Register on-line at: http://www.corneliuspr.org/youthfalllacrosseleague.html
If you have friends that you would like to play lacrosse with, offer to lend them your equipment to try the Beginner's Clinic in September! Tell them soon though because Clinic Registration will end September 3rd.
Important note- Starting in the Spring we, along with the other Charlotte area teams, will be changing the structure of our boy's divisions. Instead of grade based we will follow the US Lacrosse and tournament requirements of age based divisions. The new groupings for boys will be U-15, U-13, U-11 and U-9. Age is determined as of 1/1 each year. The player must not have reached the age group limit, prior to January 1st. Example: he may turn 11 on January 1st, but not before, and still play in the U-11 division for that spring. I am releasing this information now in the event that parents who's son's will be affected by this change want to play them down in the fall so that they are accustomed to playing with the same teammates. In the spring we will also be adding a U-9 division in pads (generally 1st& 2nd). We will also continue to have a Coed K-1. Parents of 1st grade boys will have the option of playing in either division. I would suggest rising 2nd graders play K-1 this fall and wait until spring to start in pads otherwise they may get turned off playing this fall with 3rd and 4th graders.
Just for Moms- Ever wish that you understood the game better? Mark your calendars and come to the Beginner's Clinic (same dates, times and place as the kids) and learn how to play. For moms (or any women) the clinic will be free so bring a friend or two. This clinic is for women with no prior lacrosse experience. No prior registration is required for the women (kids must pre-register online) If you plan to try the women's clinic please send me an e-mail with your name so that we have a general idea of how many mom's to expect. If we get enough interest we might even play a few fall games!

Beginner's Clinic $25
We will no longer be offering a free clinic before the Spring Season. Our new push will be to get new kids started with Summer camps and the Fall Beginner's Clinic. The BC is 3 Sunday afternoon sessions (Sept. 7,14 & 21) from 1-3pm at Smithville Park in Cornelius. This will ONLY be for beginners. It is for the purpose of teaching the basics of the game so that these kids can play in the Fall League (developing their ball handling skills so that they are ready to be taught more complex things in the spring). There will be a make up on 9/28 if one or more sessions are rained out.
Fall League
The Fall League is designed as a relaxed atmosphere where kids can get some playing time, have fun, and keep up their skills without the commitment of practices and traveling for games. The teams are smaller and the goal is to have the kids playing as much of the game as possible. All of the games are played with teams of our own players. The MS boys has for the past two years been able to field 4 teams but all other groups have simply divided the kids up each week to scrimmage. We will continue to allow 9th graders to play Fall ball on the MS teams with the understanding that if they are large for their age, they need to control the body contact aspects of their game so that no one gets hurt.
Games will be Sunday afternoons held at Huntersville Athletic Park in Huntersville (on Verhoff Drive off Hwy 21 about 1 mile south exit 23). Games will start Sunday October 5th and run through Nov. 16th with a Make up date if needed of 11/23.
I hope that everyone has had a fun and relaxing summer and look forward to seeing everyone out on the field soon!
